Sayyid qutb (rahimahullah) about the meaning of shaheed(martyr)
“The Shaheed means: that the shariah of Allaah is more worthy than his life”
About this verse
2:154] And say not of those who are slain in the way of Allah: “They are dead.” Nay, they are living, though ye perceive (it) not. “..He said: there are those killed who would fall as shuhadaa’ (martyrs) in the battle of truth, shuhadaa in the cause of Allaah. They are killed with honor and loved. …”
“…Those who are killed in the cause of Allaah are not dead but alive. Its not permissible to call them dead and they shouldn’t be seen as dead or felt like dead. It shouldn’t be said by lips or tongue. They are alive by the words of Allaah subhanah, so they are not dead but alive…”
“..They are killed outwardly how it’s seen by the eye, but in the reality of life its not the outwardly vision that judges that…”
“..Those who are killed in the cause of Allaah, for the battle of truth is an affecting figure. The idea they are killed for grows by their blood. The affect their martyrdom has on the people after them grows stronger. That makes them a strong figure that has affection in this life…”
“.. That is the description of the first life, and they are alive by this current understanding in the life of this world…”
